This unit serves as a means for students to explore various aspects of Francophone cultures. To demonstrate the diversity that exists in the Francophone world, countries have been chosen from five different continents. Students examine various cultural realities by using authentic documents, such
as French rail tickets. Students discover the variety of festivals, markets, celebrities, linguistic variations, and elements of daily life from specific countries. Students are encouraged to reflect upon the similarities and differences between life in other countries and life in Canada.
Final Task: Groups of six students participate in a board game that features Francophone countries around the world. Teams of two will make their way around the board by correctly answering a question on Francophone culture on each space. These questions are developed by the students themselves
and will focus on the many cultural elements found in each country.
