J.M. Bumsted

The Peoples of Canada: A Pre-Confederation History, Second Edition
ISBN 13: 9780195416893

About the Book

J.M. Bumsted surveys the vast sweep of Canada's pre-Confederation past in this lively and engaging text. Integrating social, cultural, political, and economic history within a coherent overarching narrative, this volume (the first of a two-part set) begins with the First Nations -- as far back as historians and archaeologists have been able to construct a record -- and takes the story of Canada through to the Confederation era.

J.M. BUMSTED has been professor of history at St. John's College, University of Manitoba, since 1980. Among his many books are The People's Clearance: Scottish Emigration to British North America 1770-1815 (1982); Land Settlement and Politics in 18th Century PEI (1987); and the single-volume History of the Canadian Peoples (2nd edn, 2003).
