Amy Kaler is a professor in the Department of Sociology at the Univeristy of Alberta. She received her PhD in Sociology and Feminist Studies from the University of Minnesota, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship in Population Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. She also has degrees in Adminstration and Policy Studies in Education, Teaching English as a Second Language, English Literature, all from McGill University. She has received the University of Alberta Faculty of Arts Research Excellence Awars three time, as an assistant, associate and full professor, as well as awards for narrative writing. Dr Kaler was named a Killam Annual Professor for 2020-2021. Her research focuses on cultural dimensions of public health, livelihoods in rural Africa and religion and public life.
