Activity # 1: Tornado Geography   Review the previous information about Canada's tornado alleys. Why are these locations prime for tornadoes?
Answer the following questions:   Do tornadoes occur in the province where you live? If so, at what time of year do they occur?   Look up the history of tornadoes in your province (if you do not live in a province where tornadoes occur frequently, choose one which does). What were the most devastating tornado events in this province's history? What were the factors which made these events so devastating?   If someone wanted to plan a "storm-chasing" trip, when and where should the person go for the best chance of seeing a tornado? What weather conditions should the person look for?
Review the section of the web site that discusses the social effects of tornadoes and then answer the following questions:   What methods of tornado warnings are used in Canada today? If you live in a tornado-prone area, which methods of warnings are used where you live? Which are the most effective?   If you were driving through the Prairies and suddenly you saw a powerful tornado approaching, what should you do to ensure your safety?   Tornado deaths are becoming few and far between (1 chance in 12 million). Does these mean that there is less risk from tornadoes today? Comment on this question.
